Students in grades five through eight have the opportunity to participate in Forensics. Students practice public speaking skills as they prepare for two different competitions throughout the year.
In the first competition students prepare a reading up to seven minutes in length. Students are judged on their understanding of the piece and how well they interpret the selection.
In the second competition a speech between three and seven minutes is memorized and delivered. The speech alternates on an annual cycle between an original speech by the participant, and a Famous Speech by a noted individual.
Students are evaluated on the following points: interpretation, use of voice, appropriate eye contact, poise and physical presentation, and memorization.
